Carmo & Carmelitas Church and Hidden House
After the Lello Bookstore, you will find another place that you can not miss, when visiting Porto - the beautiful Carmo Church (built between 1756 and 1768).
Something rare that you will notice is the fact that the Carmo Church meets side by side with another church, the Church of the Carmelites (built between 1616 and 1628).
The Carmelite Church belonged to the Barefoot Carmelite monastery, now owned by the GNR (Guarda Nacional Republicana), and the Carmo Church belonged and still to the Third Order of Carmo.
A curiosity is that both churches are separated by the narrower property of the Port, its name Casa Escondida. Do not hesitate to enter to discover this impressive property. The ticket will also allow you to visit the Carmo Church and the Carmelites.
